A Hipster’s Guide to…: Silver linings in pop culture (part 3)

flu1

I started the project of finding silver linings last week, and after kicking it off with two posts I went silent. Well done that lady. But, at last I have come back, and I bring excuses, they might even have dragons in them. Well no, but some of my dreams the last few days with all probability had. So the main excuse. I have been sick, so sick that the idea of even looking at, not even talking about typing on, a computer seemed like an almost impossible assignment. Now with the fever almost gone, and my throat only mildly sore, it is time to gather up my Easter project where I last left it, and continue down the road of documenting and sharing the silver linings in my life. And this is where the pop culture part of the headlines enters the show.

Because, since I have been sick, much of the silver linings I have been able to gather has been pop cultural ones. Since those are achievable while lying down with a cup of tea on my couch, and that is roughly what I have been able to manage to do for the last few days.

So I thought I would combine my usual hipster blog of discussing the hipsterness (word is currently trying with red colours and maybe even with big flags if it could, to make me aware that hipsterness is not in fact a word. But then again this is from a program that also tries to convince me every time I write Silver Linings that I should write “Unseen Benefits” instead, so I do not think it can be trusted)  of different cultural products, with my silver lining project. Voila, Silver Linings in Pop culture (Yes I am proud, but then again, considering that the fever is not entirely gone, it is unsure whether that is why I am proud of it).

Again me with something that almost looks like silver lining – or star trekesque lense flare, dependent on outlook

As a continuation of my Easter project of finding and documenting silver linings in my life, that I explained on my blog yesterday, here are some more silver linings I have found today, I hope they might also give you a smile on your lip, or at least a smile because I found it smile worthy.

Silver lining #1

This is a gallery of the walk me and my boyfriend took with his two teenagers, his teenage girl, who is the energetic goofy type of teenager who is still looking to make all sorts of mischief and mayhem, and his teenage boy who is the sort of “Come on, do I really have to take part in any of this, it is soooo not my thing” type of teenager. This also meant that there are very few pictures of him, since he spend most of the trip being more or less a sour apple, but this also have its own charm, and at least you get to laugh at him 😉

But it was really a great trip, where we went on adventures, raced each other, and found an obstacle course built out of tree logs, that we could goof around on. All in all there were lots of laughter, lots of red cheeks from the exercise and lots of smiles because most of us were being foolish in different ways. You forget sometimes how much fun it is to just go along with everything instead of acting so goddamn grown up all the time.

Me in a silvery glow 😉 Could it also be a silver lining?

I wanted to do something special for me and for my blog these days before Easter. But, to do that I think I need to try some radical honesty. It has taken me some time to get to terms with telling potentially the entire internet about my personal life (but in reality only the few people who by mistakes ends up on my blog, or who saw my post on Facebook will actually read this so, I will probably be alright), but if I do not tell the reasons why I am making this post, then it will probably not make sense, so here goes nothing:

Since the end of February I have been unemployed. I was forced to start up a small company to work for this guy, and then he ended my employment before the contract ran out, for no reason. And he did not pay me for February either. Long story short, because of this working through a small firm, basically is a black hole in Danish society, in the sense of protection, I have since February gotten zero money in on my account, and even though I pay membership at a labour union, they cannot give me any unemployment pay because of the difficulty of the legal situation. So the only thing I can do right now is wait to see if my lawyer can do anything about the situation, before the situations escalates to me not being able to pay my rent or pay for food in that case – well I still do not know what to do if/when this happens.

To the surprise of hopefully no one, this means I have been living a quite stressful and well bleak life for the last just over a month. And I can relay the information, if anyone is interested, that you will eventually get to the point where you need to stop thinking too much about all the things that does not work in your life, and focus on something else.
